The Budapest Jazz Orchestra is the only professional big band in Hungary, performing legendary hits from the swing era, concert band repertoire, crossover and contemporary classical music. Budapest Jazz Orchestra has developed dynamically over the years, making a whole circuit of the genre of big band and achieving a wordwide reputation in contemporary jazz.
Due to the high professional respect and solid connections the band presents music of the greatest American and European jazz performers at their shows avoiding the just simple reproduction of the classic compositions. Beside the classical jazz repertoire the audienece could hear composition of the Budapest Jazz Orchestra members as well.
Their guests are among others: Pat Appleton (Germany), George Duke (USA), Peter Erskine (USA), Ladislav Fidri (Croatia), Thomas Gansch (Austria), Jasper van’t Hof (Netherlands), David Kweeksilver (Netherlands), Butch Lacy (Denmark), Mark Nightingale (UK), Tony Lakatos (Germany), Dave Liebman (USA), Kevin Mahogany (USA), Al Di Meola (USA), Bob Mintzer (USA), Ed Neumeister (USA), James Morrison (AUS), Ken Peplowski (USA), Chris Potter (USA), Harry Sokal (Austria) Tommy Vig (USA), just as Attila László, Kálmán Oláh, György Vukán from Hungary.
The band follows the traditional big band line up (17 players): saxophone – Gábor Kollmann, Tamás Ludányi, Ákos Csejtey, Zoltán Zana, György Varga; trombone - Ferenc Schreck, Gábor Skerlecz, Ákos Frolov, Viktor Dániel Nagy; trumpet - Péter Tulkán, Ferenc Magyar, Áron Koós-Hutás, Balázs Pecze; piano – Attila Juhász; guitar – Miklós Birta; double bass – Viktor Hárs; drum – Dániel Serei.
